Good Afternoon DJMS Families,
We have the honor of being the pilot middle school for Foundations of Personal Finance this year. This is a program written by Dave Ramsey for the middle school students. Mrs. Angela Brown and Mrs. Heather Fregia have been digging deep into the curriculum with their 7th grade students. One of the major pieces to this program is the ability to give back whether that is with monetary donations, time, or acts of service. The students have begun the preparation stages of setting up a community service project. As a whole, we have agreed to adopt an elementary classroom from Orange, Texas, which is located in Southeast Texas on the border of Texas and Louisiana.
Mauriceville Elementary (MES) was one of many schools affected by Hurricane Harvey. MES is one of seven schools within the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District outside of Beaumont, Texas. Unfortunately, only two of their schools did not receive water and extensive damages from the recent floods. They are currently working hard to replace and rebuild everything that was lost. Due to state laws for donations, the teachers have created an amazon wish list to help with rebuilding process. Below you will find a link to Mrs. Kinsley’s wish list for the resources and supplies that her students use in order to excel. The students are currently holding classes at North Orange Baptist Church in Sunday school classrooms in the morning time and sharing the room with another school in the afternoon. Many of the students lost everything so school is a source of security and normality for them.
Mrs. Kinsley is in need of basic supplies such as tape dispenser, tape, stapler, staples, post it notes, dry erase markers, folders, file folders, sharpies, highlighters, card stock, index cards, expo markers, pens, pencils, binder clips, binders, page protector. She is also in need of replacing all of her supplemental aids, clipboards, chart paper, clock, and more. Please refer to the link (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1YMMFMXQSCMFO/ref=cm_go_nav_hz) and look for items with “for Kinsley” for more detailed information on the supplies that are needed. If you choose to donate through the amazon wish list, the order will be sent directly to LCMCISD and directed to Mrs. Kinsley. However, you can send your student with supplies to either Mrs. Brown (D7) or Mrs. Fregia’s (D4) classrooms during the month of October.
We would like to thank you in advance for your support in our 1st Personal Finance Community Project. Without your help and consideration, this will not be a success. Please share this with your family and friends so that we may help these young students have a successful year even with such great loses.
